Yet that has been the success secret of Nutrilife Power Enterprise, more commonly known as NLP. Since its inception 8 years ago, the company has targeted only beauty centers and salons to distribute its wide range of health products. The concept has proven to be a huge success, and NLP has been expanding with each passing year, as their office moved from a small office in Parkroyal Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, to a bungalow at Tasik Titiwangsa, and finally to their own 3-storey building in Serdang, Selangor. According to T.H Lee, NLP's Training Manager, the company foresaw that beauty will someday be reformed as another aspect of health. Their prediction came true as the world is now integrating various aspects of health into beauty and vice-versa.
There is also an increased inclination towards a more natural lifestyle, which is why NLP's health and detox camps have been filled to capacity for the past few years. "We find these camps very satisfying as the participants go home feeling rejuvenated and educated about health. It's a meaningful way to get the community involved in our health programmes," says Lee. Their products are not just limited to supplements for detoxification; they also have products for anti-ageing, nutrition, exercise, even for rest! "Having enough sleep and rest is important as it can affect our whole wellbeing. We have a special sleep machine called the Space Bed, which can help people with various health problems," Lee elaborates. |
What's more, the Space Bed is only one aspect of a treatment called 'Sleeping Treatment' which is offered in beauty salons. The procedure is:
This treatment is very effective for highly stressed people or the elderly who have insomnia, says Lee, because it combines two different techniques- the use of machines as well as the hands-on touch. The 'Sleeping Treatment' is now available in 25 beauty centers around Malaysia. There are also a lot of plans in the pipeline. Lee reveals that they are planning to go retail so that their products can reach out to more people. Discussions are currently underway with some hypermarkets and customers may soon be able to find NLP health products more easily. That's not all- they hope to set up total health and beauty centers on a franchise basis, which will incorporate a spa, beauty center and naturopathy. "It won't happen overnight, but we are in the midst of drawing up the plans. It's an exciting development to look forward to," enthuses Lee.
"A lot of educating would need to be done before we can achieve the kind of healthy culture. That's why we have invested a lot of time and effort for our training programmes for beauticians, so that they can help spread the health message," says Lee. In the past, health foods were usually sold in pharmacies, clinics, health centers or through direct-selling agents. Some beauty salons who incorporate slimming programmes into their service menu would provide slimming products as well. But it is not often that you find a whole range of health products in health centers.
"Many beauty salon owners now offer a wholesome package, which includes health foods and beauty treatments. We provide the missing link to beauty salons to complement their menu," Lee explains.
Another culture they hope to change is where only women go to beauty salons or spas. This should not be the case, and health and beauty services should be extended to the whole family such as the spouse, children and elderly parents.
